Michael is an award winning landscape architect, architect, artist, jeweller and writer.  He studied at Plymouth Art College, Plymouth Polytechnic, and Sheffield University, and subsequently worked in both local government and private practice.  He was the founding President of the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture, Vice President of the Landscape Institute and Chairman of its Education Committee for several years.

In 2001 he moved to the French Alps where, whilst still engaging in a number of professional activities, he consecrated more time to sporting interests including paragliding, skiing and climbing.  He is a practised mountaineer who has climbed extensively in the Massif du Mont Blanc, as well an experienced sailor having participated in events such as the Fastnet Race and the Swan Rolex Regattas.
